After Emirates, another UAE airline issues new power bank rules
Passengers restricted to one power bank under 100Wh capacity
DUBAI – Following Emirates’ recent policy update on portable batteries, UAE airline flydubai has rolled out stricter guidelines on the carriage and use of power banks, effective from 1 October 2025.
The measures come as part of broader efforts by carriers in the country to reinforce passenger safety and align with international aviation standards.
What is allowed
The budget airline confirmed that passengers may carry only one power bank per person in their hand baggage, provided it has a maximum capacity of 100 watt-hours (Wh). The device must have the rating clearly displayed, and any power banks exceeding this threshold are prohibited.
How to store
Power banks must remain switched off throughout the flight and stored under the seat or in the seat pocket – not in overhead lockers. They must also be protected against short circuits or accidental activation, with the airline recommending original packaging or a protective pouch. Placement of power banks in checked baggage is strictly prohibited.
What travellers need to know
The new policy bans the use of power banks during the flight. Passengers cannot charge their devices through the power bank or recharge the unit itself using onboard sockets. Travellers are encouraged to ensure all electronic devices are fully charged before departure, particularly on long-haul journeys.
In addition to power banks, flydubai reiterated its rules for other lithium-powered items, including laptops, mobile phones, e-cigarettes, rechargeable batteries, and digital cameras. Any of these devices placed in checked baggage must be switched off and secured to avoid accidental activation.
